IDrive for Mac is an application with the minimal user interface to backup your personal or business computers. Users can manage and monitor backups of their computers from the web-interface. The Dashboard is a centralized web-console which serves as a single point ofremote management for your computers. Once the thin client is set up on your computers, you can perform the following operations via the Dashboard:

IDrive helps you to manage all of your connected computers via the web – anytime, anywhere! Ensure that the computers are connected to the network and the Web Access option is enabled on the desktop application. Once you sign in to the IDrive desktop application from any computer, it automatically appears on the IDrive web interface. Note: When you backup files to your local drive, IDrive creates a unique folder with your Mac name to backup data. You can change the default backup location by clicking. You can even schedule your backups for a later time. Click Schedule to set the date and time for the future backups. Login to IDrive and backup all your PCs, Macs, and mobile devices into one account. The message says the most common cause is the Mac being turned off, but my Mac is always on and connected. IDrive has been working fine for months. IDrive support suggested that I upgrade to version 3.5.1.5 but that's what I have, and they haven't responded further. There's no clue in the logs; it just says 'Backup operation failed' at the end.

The IDrive backup system offers you the possibility to backup your files online, by uploading them to the IDrive cloud. To get started, you must register for a free account which is limited to 5GB storage space. You can also upgrade your subscription in order to increase the storage space and to get access to more complex capabilities, such as the possibility to create multiple accounts: the fee depends on the plan you choose.

Once you connect the IDrive application to your account, the utility allows you to select the files and folders you want to include in your backup: simply browse the contents of your disk and check the box associated with the respective item. When you are done, simply press the backup button to start the upload.

To make sure your information remains safe, the files will be encrypted using the 256 bit AES algorithm: the encryption key is defined by the user, and will not be stored on the IDrive servers. Since the IDrive app is using incremental backups, after the initial backup, it should not use too much bandwidth (the transfer will include only the modifications.)
